More Old West

Hi Guys,

Some more old West for you today. Foundry figs again to add to my growing collection. The first pic are two additions to my outlaw posse and the 2nd pic is the start of my Mexican posse. Really enjoying the new Foundry Flesh palettes. Very useful for an old west project! Played a game not too long ago with my new Sarrissa Productions buildings and they really are awesome, need to buy more!

Life is pretty busy right now so i'm not finding a huge amount of painting time but i am trying to get a few of my own minis painted when i can. Otherwise i find things just get boring and the lead mountain doesn't get any smaller!

I hope to have more pics of something soon, possibly next week. I need to photograph some pirates that ive had finished for a while.

Old West - Blackfoot

Hey guys,

First of an Old West Blackfoot Indian posse im putting together. Mini is from Foundry, as are all the Blackfoot Indian minis i will be using. VERY nice to paint and think they will look awesome all together. Surprised other companies havn't branched out into some Blackfoot tribes minis, they definitely have a different look than other Indians, mainly because they have more clothing and furs.

So my paint scheme is heavily inspired from the pics on the Foundry website. Love the muted tones and the splash of bright colours so that is what i am going with. The Flesh is one of the new Foundry flesh palettes - Native American Flesh. I used some darker browns at the start though. Heres the recipe for those interested:

- Foundry Native American Flesh A,B,C.

Was a revelation not having to mix any colours as they all came straight out of the pot. Im moving towards Foundry paints again. Some of their new ACW browns and greys are particularly nice. They do still have some shockers though that need mixing through the shades but thats fine with me.

Old West

And we are back at last, been a while I know. Some Old West guys this time. I'm updating my collection from Black Scorpion miniatures to Foundry and Artizan. I think the Black Scorpion minis are too big for my taste, which is a shame because they really are superb. So these are the start of an outlaw posse, starting out at 7 minis and i'l paint some more so i can make additions through a campaign, thats if i win some games!

I used the Foundry website and Kevin Dalimore's master class book as inspiration for the colour choices. The man has too much skill and is a great source of ideas. I have also been experimenting with the new Foundry flesh palettes, I will post some results next time.

With Old West gaming in mind, terrain is also a necessity. I have attempted to build scenery in the past and it took far too long and far too much effort. But now i have found the perfect scenery for my old west needs: Sarissa Precision. There are several companies making use of laser cut MDF terrain and these guys are up there with the best and amazing value. Check them out:

Black Scorpion Old West

Hi all,

Some Old West from the excellent range at Black Scorpion Miniatures. Just painted this guy alongside other projects for a bit of variety. Always enjoy painting these sculpts, very detailed and great poses. Tried to keep to a muted palette and im pleased with the results. Has made a change to brightly coloured Chinese pirates! Pics of those to follow... :)

I've been bouncing from project to project in the last few weeks and i cant seem to focus. I don't mind because i am getting lots of variety in my painting and most of my projects are seeing some paint. BUT, it means that i'm not really getting anything finished as such. But at least im enjoying myself and thats what its all about!

I didnt attend Salute as its not my favourite show but i heard there was some nice games and lots of new releases for people to drool over. Like most i am interested in the new Perry plastic kits but also the prospect of plastic Zulu wars from Empress and Warlord...

Big Trouble in Little China

Hi all,

Something different for you today. Don't worry, there will be more Darkest Africa soon :)

Here are two characters from Ironclad miniatures. I bought these guys years ago at a show and havn't really thought about them. But i came across them in the lead pile the other day and I got a sudden urge to paint them. They are great sculpts but a bit plain so i thought i would go to town and do some freehand work. I'm really pleased with the result as i don't do much free hand. I like the way the colours have come out, especially on the male and it has inspired me to paint up my Foundry Chinese pirate crew in the same colours - so watch this space :)

I'm torn as to whether i should keep them or sell them. I'd hope they would make a few quid which is a positive but i really enjoyed painting them and if i did make it round to painting my Chinese pirates they would be great characters for a crew? I don't know... If you are interested in them drop me a mail with an offer and i may be tempted to part with them.

My personal Darkest Africa project is well on the way, i have several painted British and a few Germans and Azande ready for a coat of varnish so hopefully have pics soon. Feels great to be working on this project, should hopefully be having my first game with them next week.

Yep you guessed it - more Darkest Africa. This time a Foundry mini (left) and Copplestone mini (right). Followers of the blog will notice the Foundry mini is the second i have painted and i can say this one is a marked improvement.

Having a bit of free time recently has meant my brain is on over drive with wargaming projects that i want to get started. This is dangerous for the wallet... Last night we played some Dystopian Wars at the club and i have renewed interest in painting my fleet. Darkest Africa is at the fore front of my interest but im looking at other colonial periods as well. Boxer Rebellion is interesting to me, lots of bright colours as well as a Napoleonic skirmish game with naval landing parties and native islanders. Its good to froth :)

DA Native Bearer

Hi all,

More Darkest Africa, this time a Native Bearer. These guys are essential to any expedition in the Dark Continent :) Pleased with the outcome, particularly the stripy pants, a colour combo i will use more in the future. Again he is for sale so let me know if interested. I have more DA minis to share but that will be tomorrows post - don't want to spoil you all :) Oh and Doc if you are reading this they are based on coins not GW bases... ;)

All these DA minis iv'e painted recently have really brought back my enthusiasm for this period and i have started painting my own minis for Darkest Africa rather than specifically to sell. I have started on some British Askari that will form the core of a British force. I also have some Germans to fight them that i will start basing up.

I am known for my hopping from project to project and in my opinion it keeps everything fresh and interesting. The hobby is about having fun and if you are not having fun painting and gaming a certain period / subject - move on to something that does excite you.

Theres my little nugget of hobby genius for the day...

DA Hunter

Hi all,

More Foundry Darkest Africa today, this time a hunter / guide type character. Really enjoyed painting this guy, his eyes and features have been sculpted to make him look worried, perhaps he just stumbled upon a pride of lions? I enjoy working with these muted tones and think they came out appropriately. Again, this guy will appear on eBay soon with others that i have in the pipeline. I have also based some on coins as i am aware that some people are not fond of the GW style bases.

Also found a few more minis that will be destined for eBay: Foundry old west, GW Characters for Fantasy and 40k, Artizan Thrilling Tales and some Copplestone sculpts to name a few. Hopefully they will get me the funds to support my Warmachine addiction! :)

I find myself with a bit of free time over the next few weeks so hopefully their will be regular updates and pics and i will provide links to any auctions for those who fancy a look.

Darkest Africa Character

Hi all,

The weather is finally better but i am struggling with my camera skills so bear with me until i can get some better shots.

I've decided to dig out a few more Foundry and Copplestone minis to paint alongside other projects. These will be for sale through eBay in the next few weeks as i have a Warmachine buying list as long as my arm that i need the fund :)

So today i have a Foundry Darkest Africa mini for you. A simple sculpt as most of them are, but lots of character. This particular chap could be useful as a salty captain for a steamboat? If you are interested in buying him before eBay then drop me an email.

I'm still working on a lot of Warmachine / Hordes minis which i'm enjoying. Really looking forward to the release of Warmachine: Wrath (the new book and releases) in June. Some tasty new models have been previewed, hence why i am selling minis on eBay again...

Those rainy days...

Hi all,

been a while since anything posted and that is a combination of being mega busy with real life and the 'lovely' English weather. It's either raining, windy, cold or grey and that makes for bad varnishing conditions! I've got a shelf full of completed minis that need a coat of varnish to complete them ready for pics but I do not want to risk getting 'cloudy' models.

Getting a bad varnish result is petty much the worst thing to happen after all that time spent painting it. I've been lucky and only had it a couple of times but it just feels awful.

So now the excuse is out of the way what's going on hobby wise? As usual my interests have shifted temporarily. Star Wars is on the back burner and Warmachine is back on the table (both gaming and painting). I've rekindled an old flame and got working on my Menoth again (pun intended ). I've painted the vassal mechanic and I'm working on a recently purchased Warcaster - Vice Scrutator Vindictus. Strange that I haven't picked this guy up before, his rules are pretty nice and I look forward to fielding him. Pics will be posted when the weather is kind.

I've also dipped my toe into Cygnar and I must say I rather like them. I only have the battle box and a unit of trencher commandos but I'm really enjoying using them. Also got a jack and a few inf painted and enjoying painting the blue and white.

So there you go. Warmachine is back on the table and I'm working on Menoth and Cygnar. Pics will be taken in due course. By the time that happens my interests may have shifted elsewhere again and I may have something different to share!

A Dastardly Villain

Hi all,

Another Foundry Darkest Africa mini. From the same pack as Tarzan and Jane and a really nice sculpt. It's so simple but has so much character. I thought a simple paint job with hints of bold colour would be effective. The Blue is Vallejo deep sea blue with GW fortress grey added for highlights.

I didn't get to keep this one but i would love to have one in my own collection so if you have a spare, please email or leave a comment and we can sort something out. I have some ideas for different colour schemes and i really want to try them out!

Still have Star Wars gaming on the brain and im currently working on Cad Bane, the ruthless mercenary made popular in the Clone Wars animated series. Now, the WOTC mini is ridiculously expensive and from what ive heard, not the best sculpt. But, i saw on a forum i visit a conversion someone had done and it was truly inspiring. So i got the minis for the conversion ( cost me £2, the WOTC Bane is around £20-£30). He is now converted and sat undercoated on my paint station so hopefully i will be posting pics soon. Im happy with the result but converting minis really isn't a strength of mine. But until then, keep looking back for a skinny, blue Clint Eastwood lookalike...

Tarzan & Jane

Hi all,

Foundry Tarzan and Jane for you today. Wanted to paint these sculpts for a while as they are great practice for painting flesh. I enjoyed the challenge and i think they came out well. I particularly like Tarzan's face, easy to paint because it was so well sculpted. Should have a few more Darkest Africa pics this week so keep looking back.

On some of the forums i visit regularly there has been a buzz about Star Wars gaming. Ive seen all the different minis available and people are doing some great things with them. If you read this blog for a while you will know that ive repainted some WOTC star wars minis and really enjoyed them. I am currently painting some more, mainly droids, and i hope to start playing some games with them as i love star wars.

I mentioned im working with the WOTC pre painted minis. Some are good sculpts, some are really awful. There is one company however that is producing amazing star wars sculpts, but at a premium price.

Its a small range at the moment but the releases have been fairly regular. I think they would be great additions to the WOTC range. So far i have Darth Maul and im really pleased with the quality of the sculpt and im looking forward to painting him.

Foundry Darkest Africa

Hi all,

Some pics of a few Foundry Darkest Africa minis. If you have followed this blog for any amount of time you will know i love painting minis from this range. So much character and very well sculpted. Unfortunately i wont be keeping these but it was a pleasure to paint them. Heres a pic of the hunter (Apologies for the pic quality this time)

So what else is new? I have another week of painting before real life takes over again so im trying to be as productive as i can with it. Got lots on the paint station which is keeping my inspiration flowing. Im working on a Wold Guradian that ive wanted to paint for ages, im about half way through. I find large models to be a marathon and its best for me to pace myself. Also forgot to mention i got the Brittania starter set for Dystopia Wars and ive finished a few ships and fighter tokens. Happy with the results but not sure i will be able to get decent pics because the minis are so small. I advise anyone who loves brutal, fast paced wargames and rolling buckets of dice to play this game - it's awesome.

Stoneward & Woldstalkers

Hi all,

I would like to start this post off by wishing everyone a happy New Year. I hope you all were safe and enjoyed yourselves and are ready for 2011.

So some pics at last and they are of some Privateer Press HORDES Circle of Orboros minis. Circle has become my faction of choice recently, slightly overshadowing my love of all things Menoth, and this has partly happened because i adore painting the minis. They are so appealing to me that i want to paint them and that can't be a bad thing!

So up today is a pic of a Stoneward and couple of Woldstalkers. The unit officially comprises of the Stoneward and 5 Woldstalkers but i only took a few minis to photograph as the pic quality would be better. BUT as i mentioned in my last post the unit is completely painted and i am very happy because i rarely have fully painted armies.

The theme i have gone for with my Circle force is "Constructs". Constructs being giant stone beasts and tree men. Partly because i love the models and enjoy painting them and partly because i think they play well in the game. However i have purchased some more living Circle minis and i am getting the urge to expand into that area...

So just a few minis to share today, now i have the camera for a bit i will be taking some more pics of various bits and bobs over the next few days so keep checking back. I'l finish off with a single pic of the Stoneward for you.

No longer taking painting commissions

Hi all,

Well its been a long time coming but i have decided to stop accepting new painting commissions for the foreseeable future. Please note that i will be completing ALL the commissions i am currently working on. Any questions please email me.

There are several reasons but the main ones being that i am too busy with real life work and i want my painting time to be for my own collection.

Just because i am no longer taking commissions does not mean i am giving up on painting, if anything it will allow me to focus on my own minis and hopefully have more photos to share with you.

I hope to have a lot more activity for you all on this blog over the Christmas holiday and im looking forward to having more painting time and less work :)

Update time

Hi all,

Apologies for the lack of updates recently. Real life is taking over slowly again so my painting time has become limited. But that doesn't mean I haven't got anything done. I have some commissions nearing completion and ready to be shipped out and i have been busy working on my HORDES Circle of Orboros army. Still no painted Wold Guardian I'm afraid but I have managed to finish a unit of Wold Stalkers and a unit of Shifting Stones, I will get pictures up when i have access to the camera. Anyone who knows me will understand my sense of accomplishment with these units as I very rarely play with full painted armies.

In terms of other personal projects I've been getting really excited for the HORDES Minion Gatormen army ( The Blindwater Congregation) Lots of very cool minis and I have already made a start on a croak hunter and Bloody Barnabas. Again, pics will appear when the camera does.

Something else that has caught my eye is a new game from Spartan Games called 'Dystopian Wars'. Its a fleet based game set in the Victorian Sci - fi genre. I was drawn in by the awesome minis and I'm looking forward to picking up the rule book and a starter set when they are released in December. I'm liking the Britannia force and here's a pic of them from the Spartan Games website:

Unfortunately I am ending with some sad news. A friend of mine who I have known for several years through work and war gaming was killed in a car accident last week. Words cannot express how shocked I was as we were only talking a few hours before the accident. It's times like this that you realise how fragile life is and how you should cherish every moment. My thoughts go out to his wife and children and all those that knew him. Goodbye Stig, keep rolling dice wherever you are.

Old West Cowboy

A Foundry mini for you today, from their Old West range. Some very nice minis, lots of character and im sure you will find them on many Old West gaming tables around the world. They are on the small side though, especially when you compare them with a manufacturer such as Black Scorpion.

So whats next? Well ive been wanting to do a battle report for a while now and it seems i now have the tools and the opportunity to do so. I stumbled across a free bit of software called Battle Chronicler and it enables you to create some pretty cool maps and lets you adjust them on a turn by turn basis. My buddy and i are playing a game of Warmachine / Hordes on Thursday so it will be our test run. I don't think i'l take photos aswell this time as i want to concentrate on the maps and words but will incorporate photos going forward as i get more confident.

So look forward to that over the weekend - I'm excited :)

Bolshevik Advisor

Hi all,

As promised, another Copplestone single to share with you. This time, another RCW sculpt which can be used as an officer or advisor type character.

Really enjoyed painting this guy, probably because i have a Bolshevik army on the go already and i love painting them when i get the opportunity.

Im not sure how accurate the uniform is. The sleeve has a patch and some rank markings, aswell as the collar. I thought it would add a bit more character and make him more special.

He is destined for eBay as all of my singles are, he will be up for auction over the weekend.

Not sure what i will have for you all next, got lots going on!

More Foundry Dwarfs

Hi All,

Some more Foundry Dwarfs for you today, this time with crossbows. Not that happy with my photography on these guys but you get the idea.

Great fun to paint again, i get to use lots of bright colours and i love the sculpting - very fantasy. As with the last batch these would fit in great with a small skirmish game like Mordheim. Although i could see a massed unit of these crossbow guys on the table.

Will be shipping these guys off tomorrow and may be receiving some more in the near future.

Should have another eBay single ready to post up for you tomorrow, something from Mr Copplestone again :)

Chinese Bandit Chief

Hi all,

My first offering after returning from holiday - a Copplestone Back of Beyond Chinese Bandit Chief. A mini i have had in the lead mountain for a while and i'm glad i got round to painting him.

Typical Copplestone awesomeness with the sculpting, very clean cast, good lines - as always a joy to paint. I am happy with the red sash and khaki trouser combo, thought it works quite nicely.

This mini is destined for eBay so keep you eyes peeled and have a bid :)

I should have more for you this week in terms of pics. Got another eBay single ready and another batch of Foundry dwarfs nearing completion.

Not much space on the painting table for personal projects at the moment as commissions are pretty heavy. A shame because i'm playing HORDES for the next few weeks and i want to make a start on my Wold Guardian that i mentioned a while ago. Oh and i should probably mention i went ahead and bought a second one. Hey, i didn,t want the big guy getting lonely! :)

Nurgle

Hi all,

Been busy with all things Nurgle for the last week. These guys were challenging to complete but very rewarding. I don't tend to paint much Nurgle stuff because i didnt think they suit my painting style. Ive always preferred bright and crisp colours. However these have been an excellent little project for me.

I used a lot of washes on these minis. I used the GW washes exclusively. The two main washes were Badab Black and Devlan Mud. This was for the robes and metal. I also used Baal Red and Asurmen (sp?) Blue on the flesh to give a purpley bruised appearance in places. I dont tend to use many washes so this was great practice for me.

These will be shipped off to their owner soon and i'm looking forward to the next lot.

I'm heading on holiday next week so a break from painting for a while. Looking forward to it but will definitely miss my painting :)

White Russian Advisor

Hi all,

Another single mini painted for sale. This time a Copplestone Back of Beyond White Russian Advisor. Not sure how accurate the uniform is but hey, its pulp!

Had a blast painting this guy and its made me realise how much i love this range and how i need to get more minis from my Bolshevik army completed. The Grey worked nicely, didnt want it to look white. Not sure if it shows in the pic but i painted a chevron on the left arm, thought an officer deserved a bit more detail.

Foundry Dwarfs

Hi all,

Well my paint station has been invaded by short guys with beards and these are the results. Not my best photography but you get the idea! These are Dwarfs from Foundry's ever expanding fantasy range. Lovely little sculpts with lots of appeal. I see these guys as being more useful for small skirmish games like Mordheim than large scale battles like Warhammer.

I really enjoyed painting them and using lots of colours i may not use most of the time. I'm pleased with them for the most part but looking at these pics i could have done with a starker highlight on some of the beards. I'm learning all the time! These will be shipped off to their owner this week and on to the next project.

Got lots of minis littering the table as usual, mainly commissions but ive completed a few more Star Wars re-paints and when i've got some more done i'l get a group shot posted. I'm finding it hard to stick to a particular project at the moment so i'm jumping to and fro while working on commissions. I guess it keeps things interesting but nothing seems to get finished! Oh well, life and trials of a wargamer...

Retribution Of Scyrah Arcanist

Hi all,

Well like most Warmachine players i was pretty excited by the release of Retribution of Scyrah minis for Warmachine a while ago and yes, i went out and bought some. However, my enthusiasm died and i dont want to collect them anymore. BUT i did paint this guy when i first got him and i really enjoyed painting him. He's an Archanist ( mechanic) for the Retribution and a useful solo. I went for mute colours with Khaki armour. Im pleased with how he turned out.

As i dont intend on collecting the Retribution and they were just an impulse buy i intend to sell them. I have this guy, an assembled and unpainted Heavy jack (phoenix) and an unmade House Shyeel Magister. Let me know if your interested.

Ive been busy with commissions this week but ive had the time to work on a few side projects. A few more Star Wars minis have been prepped and undercoated and i still want to paint some more Hordes and Warmachine minis. Especially my Wold Guardian...

Star Wars Miniatures Re - Paints

Hi all,

Something a bit different for you today. I am a HUGE Star Wars fan and so the idea of gaming the Star Wars universe is right up my street. Now i know not everyone is a fan of pre - painted minis but i think some of the sculpts are quite cool. Of course the painting is questionable and heavy on some but a little scraping and a decent undercoat and you have a good start for re - painting.

So here are my first three efforts (left to right) A Commando Droid, an R7 Astromech Droid and a Senate Commando.

These are from the Clone Wars Era and feature mainly in the Animated Series "Clone Wars". Im quite happy with how these guys turned out considering how thick they were painted before hand. I'm painting more as and when and will post pics when they are done. My friend and I are currently play testing some rules based on the GW LOTR set.

Circle of Orboros

Hi all,

As promised, here are a few pics of my growing Circle of Orboros force for Hordes. I don't have that many minis completed yet but i'm chipping away at them gradually. First up is my Warlock, Baldur Stonecleaver. He is central to the 'Constructs' theme of the force because he is the guy that creates everything then holds them together. I have a pic of him on his own and then with a few Wold Stalkers (I havn't finished the whole unit yet)

I'm going with the wood and stone look with lots of mute browns and a deep blue. Simple but looks cool on the table. The next pic shows the first beast for my force - A Wold watcher. He is a light beast and so a little smaller than the Wold Guardian ive just picked up.

So just a few minis to share but hopefully more completed in the coming weeks. I'm waiting for the MKII rule book to be released so i can start gaming again. My buddy has trolls and they are great fun to play against - except when they keep making their tough rolls...

Ive had the terrain bug over the weekend and ive been painting some buildings and making some generic terrain tiles. Not a huge fan of making terrain but i get the urge every now and then. Hopefully i'l be able to post pics of games now that i have something at home to play games on.

Hi all,

Another Artizan mini today, this time from the old west range. Ive had this guy for ages, part of a pack of three. I completed the other two ages ago, i think there are pics on this blog? Very nice to paint, very simple and kinda sinister looking in his long coat. Should make an excellent addition to any ones old west collection.

Oh and guess what arrived today...

Really excited to make a start on this guy. Seeing him and some of the other new Hordes releases has really got me interested again and i cant wait to start rolling some dice.

I'm going to take some photos of some of my Circle of Orboros minis in the next few days, havnt got many completed but it will give you an idea of what i'm going for.

But enough of this - I've got a Wold Guardian to put together!

Tau Pathfinder

Hi all,

Still waiting for my Wold Guardian to be delivered :(

But on the plus side I have another mini to share. This time something from GW - a Ltd edition 40k Tau Pathfinder. I really enjoyed painting this guy, made me realise how much I like the Tau range. Shame I don't like the game... The yellow was GW Foundation Tau sept Ochre, a very nice colour to work with and i used P3 Menoth White Highlight for the highlights.

I'm working on some more single minis for sale. Got some Artizan and Copplestone on the table so looking forward to sharing those. Other than that just working through commissions.

Thrilling Tales Ali

Hi all,

Another productive week of painting ahead (i hope). I have another single mini to share today. Again, just something i painted on the side of other projects. A break from Darkest Africa though and he's from the Artizan Thrilling Tales range and his name is Ali. Im pleased with how the brown on the robes turned out, ive been struggling to find a good highlight for darker browns. I used P3 Battlefield Brown and added P3 Rucksack Tan for highlights. Seems to work better than bone colours being added? He will be up for sale eventually and i hope to have some more minis from Artizan painted soon.

Hi all,

I have another Foundry DA mini to share. This time a hunter / explorer type character. Again, bags of character and great fun to paint. He is for sale so send me a mail if interested. Im still planning on painting single minis for sale, i have some artizan thrilling tales and old west up next and looking forward to it!

Im painting a few ltd edition GW models as a commission and i'm really enjoying them. One is a Tau fire warrior and its made me realise how much i enjoy painting Tau minis.

Me and my buddy went to see "Predators" at the movies on Thursday and i cant recommend it enough. Very Very cool. Naturally it left us frothing gaming ideas and weve started to think about using GW Inquisitor or Necromunda. Who knows if anything will come of it but its never a bad thing to froth!

Warmachine and Hordes are still some of my favourite games and we tend to game intensively for a few months and have a rest. I think i'm starting to get the urge to game intensively again. I have a HUGE menoth collection for warmachine and a small Circle of Orboros force for Hordes. My Circle force is based around "constructs" such as tree men and rock monsters and ive just ordered the latest warbeaast for circle and i cant wait to paint it - check this out (obv not my paint job and taken from the PP website)...

So hopefully i will be showing you my own Wold Guardian pretty soon :)

Two posts in a week - what's going on! Like I said I'm trying to get back into the swing of things and its definitely working painting a few of these Foundry DA minis i've had lying around.

Here's a Foundry DA gent. A very nice sculpt with some great character. Would be a brilliant addition to anyone's collection as an explorer, archaeologist or trader.

Hi all,

Long time no post.... Due to lots of reasons but I'm trying to get back into the groove of blogging and taking pics of my minis again. I've had lots of commission work to keep me busy and havn't had a huge amount of time to paint anything for myself really. I want to break the commissions up by painting a few random minis here and there and then hopefully sell them to fund my hobby as funds are tight.

So heres a Foundry Belgian officer from their Darkest Africa range. Nothing spectacular but i was happy with the blue and the black strapping. I love the Darkest Africa range and will have more for you in the future.

Rogue Tropoer

Ok so heres a Foundry Rogue Trooper from their 2000AD range. Really enjoyed painting this mini, probably because hes one of my favorite characters. Im happy with how the skin turned out. I used the Foundry Tomb Blue palette mainly, heres the recipe:

Hi all,
So Foundry have had an xmas sale running for a few weeks and aswell as stocking up on paint and some Darkest Africa minis i found myself purchasing a load of their 2000AD minis. They were reduced from £5 to £3 so they were now at a more reasonable price!

I kicked off with Johnny Alpha, the dogged bounty hunter whose mutant eyes see through walls and read minds. A very cool character and a pleasure to paint. Im pleased with the yellow, was worried about attempting it. Heres the recipe for those interested:

A bit long winded with alot of mixing but i got the desired effect!

Artmaster Vision

Last night i tuned into Artmaster Vision, a show run by Toby.

A very enjoyable show, mainly because its always good to see how other painters work. This show featured some finishing touches on a 25mm ECW unit and some freehand on an ECW flag. Toby is a very skilled painter and has a great collection of pics on the site. My favorite have to be the Napoleonic units, really vibrant colours achieved.

Ive also found the tutorials section very helpful, especially the colours used for the basing for his models which i really like.

So i urge others to check the shows out if you have some time.

A new post at last!

Well its been a while but im back. I have access to a camera which im still getting to grips with so please bare with me on the pic quality. So what have i been doing all these months? Well i have been painting, albeit mostly commission work but ive been pretty busy with "Real" life. A career change has led me to further education so im back to studying after a while which is interesting... This new stage in life has left me with quite a bit of time to paint so im looking forward to completing a few personal projects and getting commissions out ASAP.

Wargaming wise im still heavilly interested in Warmachine & Hordes. Recently ive been playing Hordes and using my new Circle of Orboros Army. Il see if i can get some pics. My main focus for the meantime though is Pulp / Back of Beyond and WW1 gaming. Ive always had the bug for this period and at last im going for it.

I allready have a 1000pt WH Great War BEF army which i am working through and thanks to Mark Copplestones "October Special offer" i have a huge Bolshevik army. The pic above is a few of my freshly painted officers who will lead my forces to victory! Hopefully...

Happy New Year

Hi all and Happy New Year! (a bit late i know...)

So ive been slack on the Blogging recently (Thanks for reminding me Trev!). I hope to remedy this i promise. What have i been working on? Ive got quite a few commissions on the table at the moment and they are taking up most of my painting time. Some are proving more challenging than i thought they would be so im having to work that bit harder.

Im still finding time to paint a few bits for myself though. I find this is important as it tends to stop the dreaded "painters block" that most hobbyists get at some point. The pic above is a GW LOTR Rohan captain. Lord of the Rings is my fav wargaming rule set and i love playing it so in thought i would start another small force, what with my dwarves being completed. Really like the LOTR miniature line, some fine sculpting by the Perry twins really keeps my interest.

Other hobby news at my end, Ive got a reall interest in 15mm minis at the moment. Im really enjoying painting them and i think the visual effect they can have on the tabletop is very rewarding. Im addicted to Peter pigs range. Im currently working on some ECW using either the WAB rules or 1644. Im also considering some WW2 USMC for pacific theatre using disposable heros ruleset.

Im expecting more pics for you soon. Please bare with me though as i have a new camera and im still working out how best to use it. Seems like half the painting hobby is getting a good pic nowadays!

The first samurai...

Hey all,

Thought i would post up a mini i finished recently. Ive been working exclusively on comissions for the last month or so and i needed to paint something for myself as a break. Ive got a huge pile of Perry samurai and i picked this guy out. Really enjoyed working on him, i love the Samurai so its a real treat when i get a chance to paint one. The only negative is that the Perry Samurai range takes sooooooo much effort because they are so detailed! I will probably never get them all painted but i can hope!

Im still working on comissions for the next month or so and then i should have some time for some of my personal stuff. Will probably do some more for my warmachine Menoth Army i think?

Return to Africa?

Hi all,

A mini return to Africa this time. I wish i could spend more time in this awesome genre but my brush is needed elsewhere unfortunately. This explorer is from Foundry and is some of Mr Copplestones work i believe. He is a commision piece and i hope the owner will be pleased with him.

Im still working through the Artizan Kiss Kiss Bang Bang range and hope to have a few more pics before i send them off to the customer. These really are some awesome miniatures and i cant wait to see what else they come up with for them.

Other than this im working on some Warmachine bits and preparing for another commision to arrive.

Hi,

Well real life is going well. A`couple of weeks into the new job and im really enjoying it. But the good thing is that it seems to be giving me more time to get some painting done - woop!

So ive had a few new comissions come in that im working on, one of which is for some Artizan Kiss Kiss Bang Bang minis - three of which you can see pictured above. Ive been wanting to work on this range for so long and it was a pleasure when i was approached to paint them.

Really enjoying working on them, some great characters in the range and im looking forward to hopefully doing some of the Copplestone sculpts also.

Start of Thrilling Tales

Hi,

So with my new "real life" job / career comes the need for more funds so i can eat and have a roof over my head. That means i need to dip back into my "for sale" box and start ebaying. I found a load of Artizan thrilling tales minis and they will do nicely

So first up is the mini pictured above known as Mr Price. I really enjoyed painting him and its a shame i cant keep him in my own collection. I wouldnt have used him for pulp type games i think, i would have used him in my Old west games as a prospector or townsman. Artizan are really good quality sculpts and im looking forward to working on the thrilling tales minis i have, even tho i wont be keeping them.

He will be on eBay in the middle of the week along with another if i get it finished.

What else is on the table? Another warmacine mini for my Menoth force and some Musketeer Miniatures sculpts from their IWI range for a friend.

Ok so i finally had a chance to paint some of my Warmachine mountain ( and my god is it turning into a mountain...) Really glad i found the time to get this guy done, as soon as i saw him i wanted to paint him and he was a blast to work on!

For those who dont follow /play Warmachine the mini above is the Mercenary solo Orin Midwinter. He used to be a Cygnar inquisitor but has since turned rogue and is lending his services to other factions. Rules wise im still getting used to him. Hes got some great abilities that can really null the enemies magic. Oh and did i mention he brings lightning to menoth?

Ive got some pics of minis from my Menoth collection which il try and post up. Warmachine is an ongoing project that i dip into when i can.

Whats up next? Still working on some minis for Foundry, Warmachine where i can fit it in, and possibly another commision that im very excited about.

Its been a while since the last update, sorry about that. So whats been going on with RJ and his painting? Well ive had alot going on, just finished a big comission and im in the middle of another. One of the minis in the comission is the Swashbuckler featured above. Ive got a few other commisions lined up but if you are interested in me doing a bit of painting for you just drop me an email and we can talk.

In terms of my own projects ive been touching on alot of things rather than focusing on anything specific. Im kinda doing this so i dont lose interest with anything too fast! So im currently working on 6mm Dark Realm Sci-Fi, GHQ WWII micro armour, West Wind Secrets of the third Reich and Renegade WWI,. Ive loooooooots more projects aswell but these are the ones that currently have my attention.

So the mini above is (i think) a Black Cat Pirate / Swashbuckler. First time ive painted a miniature from Black Cat and Im fairly impressed. Nicely cast and sculpted with lots of detail in the face.

Heres another couple of Darkest Africa Explorers from Foundry. Ive got another couple to get done and then i can move on to My German Colonial force for my Darkest Africa project. These Explorers are being sold off on eBay to fund the project. Im going with the "In the heart of Africa" rules set by Chris Peers.

So whats up next? too much to list but il give it a try.... Ive started my Imperial Navy for Aeronautica Imperialis. Ive nearly finished my first 25mm ACW base (new Perry plastics) Ive got a few WW1 Early British Infantry from Renegade undercoated. Plus alot more random stuff...

"Leeloo Dallas - Muti pass"

After watching Fifth Element last night i remembered i had this cute little sculpt lying around somewhere. She's from Heresy Miniatures and is sculpted in the likeness of the lead female character in Fifth Element "Leeloo".

She was great fun to do and im happy how she came out. Was nice to paint some orange as i dont usually get to do much. The base is from Antenociti, very good quality stuff.

Not sure what il have for you next, ive got lots on the table plus a new commision that may take up a month or so of my painting time in the near future. Il let you know...

Only four more dwarves to go until im done with my 300pts of dwarves. Still really enjoying painting these sculpts and im looking forward to adding to them in the future.

Im working on my LOTR evil force of goblins and wargs at the mo. Also doing a little work with the warmachine collection i have. Im starting with the Khador starter set and then il go to the menoth starter set. I wanted to do two factions so i could try out different styles of play.

Iron Guard

Sorry for the lack of updates recently but ive had to recover from another knee injury over the last couple of weeks so not much room for painting.

But im back now and ready to post more pics. So we have some LOTR dwarf Iron guard. These are part of the last batch for my 300pt force, only another 8 small hairy guys to go. The Iron guard are very cool in the game, they get throwing weapons, 2 attacks and good armour - Not too shabby!

My Dwarfs have a leader at last in the form of Gimli. A nice solid charcter for any Dwarf army and not too expensive points wise either. Not the best sculpt, i prefer the plastic one from the moria set which i have to do a some point. More dwarfs to come in the form of Iron guard, some nice elite warriors to add some punch to the force.

At last i have some bow support for my beardy warriors! Lovely sculpts again with alot of character and well defined detail. Next im working on Gimli who will be leading my 300pt force. Chose him to lead my force because hes pretty damn hard with lots of attacks and high fight value. Will look at more expensive characters like Dain in bigger games tho.Had a look through my Helldorado minis last night and i was very tempted to start those again but i said no! i must finish my dwarfs! Im back at last!

First off a late happy new year to everyone. Well i am finally back to the brushes after almost a month and a half. I was really unwell over the holidays and was in bed for most of the time. Not only was i unwell i also had painters flu, just didnt want to sit at the painting table or look at a mini. But im back now and getting stuck in again. Ive started playing GW's LOTR again and im going with Dwarves. Heres the first three ive done, quite pleased with how they turned out. Again i used mainly P3 paint, altho still trying to get the hang of the metalics. I hope to post some more dwarves over the next couple of days.

First Infinity Nomad

Just finished my first Infinity Nomad Miniature: a "Zero" Trooper. This guy was great fun to paint. A really great sculpt with bags of character. Im happy with how he came out, the highlighting on the black came out better than i thought. This is the first of 6 minis from the Nomad starter set that im working through. Im halfway finished on the first line trooper from the box and will post as soon as complete. Other than that just working away at my foundry commision.

Start of a new posse

Ive decided to go for Apaches as my next LOTOW posse. I really liked the Foundry models for the apache and after i read the rules for them i thought they would be a challenge to play. Im really happy how he turned out. i went for a muted colour scheme as i do with most of my old west stuff. i was probably most happy with how the flesh turned out, a formula i picked up from Kevin Dallimore on the SD forum. Hopefully i will be able to get a few more of these done before i have to move on to other projects. More pics soon!

Back to painting and a new Blog!

Havnt had alot of time for painting recently due to work commitments but im making sure that i get back into it ASAP. Im looking out for some good lamps with daylight bulbs but not having much luck... that has affected my photography and im not prepared to post anything new until ive sorted it. So.... Ive decided to post the last mini i took a good pic of. An armed Archeologist from copplestone. Im a HUGE fan of copplestone minis and i love painting them. This guy turned out to be my favorite of the pack. He ended up on eBay and went to a good home.

Glad to be blogging again and cant wait to start showing some new bits and bobs.
